March Wrap Up

March was… a month.

Processed with VSCO with s1 preset

Okay this was a wild ride of a month all around. And my reading seemed to match the mood. I read A LOT this month. But it was so sporadic. There were weeks I finished nothing and weeks I finished 4+ books. At one point I was literally in the middle of seven books because I just couldn’t commit to anything. And I had everything from 5 star, new favorite to 2 star, probably gonna make my worst of the year.

So yeah… Here’s what I read.

1. House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City #1) by Sarah J. Maas ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

HouseOfEarthAndBlood

March started off with a bang! This will most likely be my favorite book of all of 2020! I am completely and utterly obsessed with this book and have no idea how I’m going to wait until book 2 is released. Check out my full review for all my gushing thoughts!

2. A Treacherous Curse (Veronica Speedwell #3) by Deanna Raybourn ⭐⭐⭐.5

TreacherousCurse

I cannot get enough of this series or these characters. I just heard that Berkely picked up another 3 books and I’m SO HAPPY! Book 2 is still my favorite but I loved that we got more of Stoker’s backstory in this book. And I swear if these don’t kiss in the next novel I will explode…

3. A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR #1) by Sarah J. Maas (Reread) ⭐⭐⭐

ACOTAR

My online book club was doing a Sarah J Maas readathon as well as reread readathon in March. So I decided on a whim to reread the entire ACOTAR series on audiobook. I appreciate this first book for all of the setup, but I still think it’s just kinda boring until Feyre goes under the mountain.

4. A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOTAR #2) by Sarah J. Maas (Reread) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

ACOMAF

I LOVE THIS BOOK! It will forever be an all-time favorite. Rereading it a second time was just as magical. I honestly could reread this book a million times and still adore it.

5. Undercover Bromance (Bromance Book Club #2) by Lyssa Kay Adams ⭐⭐⭐.5

UndercoverBromance

I really enjoyed this follow up to The Bromance Book Club! It was quite as magical as book 1 and I wish we got more of the book club itself. But I did enjoy the humor and banter of these two main characters. And I’m so excited we’re getting another book later this year!!

6. Not So Nice Guy by R.S. Grey ⭐⭐.5

NotSoNiceGuy

I listened to this on audio for Romanceopoly and I was so disappointed. I absolutely loved the first half of this! But the conflict was completely resolved by the halfway point and the last 3 hours of the audiobook were just them being happy and loving each other. Which was honestly boring and unnecessary. This author is general is super hit or miss for me. But lucky her books are all really short and available on Audible Escape.

7. Girls With Razor Hearts (Girls With Sharp Sticks #2) by Suzanne Young ⭐⭐

GirlsWithRazorHearts

Ugh… This very well might be my least favorite book of the year. It was an absolute mess in my opinion. It was pandering and unnecessary. If you want to hear all my thoughts check out my review. But to sum it up, read book 1 and pretend it was left a standalone.

8. The Girl in the Tower (The Winternight Trilogy #2) by Katherine Arden ⭐⭐⭐⭐

GirlInTheTower

This series just keeps getting better! This book was so action packed that I had to force myself to slow down and read every word because I was so frantic to learn what was coming next. This is another series I’m obsessed with and 100% plan to read the conclusion next month!

9. Cold-Hearted Rake (The Ravenels #1) by Lisa Kleypas ⭐⭐⭐⭐

ColdHeartedRake

This was my first read for the Historical Romance readathon and I absolutely fell in love with this! I actually loved this so much that I ordered the entire series from The Ripped Bodice because I want to binge them all. I wasn’t sure if historical romance would be my jam, but man did I love this.

10. Wicked and the Wallflower (Bareknuckle Bastards #1) by Sarah MacLean ⭐⭐⭐⭐

WickedAndTheWallflower

This book solidified my love for historicals. I listened to this on audio, also for the HR readathon, and at first I wasn’t sure if I was going to love this one. But by the halfway point I was absolutely swooning over this romance. I also went ahead and ordered this series because I need more of the Bareknuckle Bastards asap.

11. Angels’ Flight (Guild Hunter #0.4, #0.6, #0.8, #3.5) by Nalini Singh ⭐⭐⭐.5

ArchangelsFlight

This is an anthology of 4 short stories in the Guild Hunter series. Since I finished book 3 last month, I figured now was the perfect time to pick this one up. I loved 2 of the stories, enjoyed 1, and thought one was just okay. It was really fun getting to see some peaks into the lives of some side characters I love!

12. Reborn Yesterday (Phenomenal Fates #1) by Tessa Bailey ⭐⭐⭐.5

RebornYesterday

This is one of my favorite covers ever. But sadly not one of my favorite books. Don’t get me wrong this book was highly entertaining and a damn good time. But for me it lacked depth and explanation. The characters were pretty 1 dimensional and the relationship was definitely borderline insta-love (I personally prefer a slow-burn). But my real struggle was that there was no world building/explanation. I’ll go into more detail in my review but I have QUESTIONS!

13. Ink and Bone (The Great Library #1) by Rachel Caine

InkAndBone

I mentioned this is my Readathon Wrap Up but this book was a total slog. I never felt the urge to pick this up – which is not great for a readathon 😅 But I made it through and feel super meh about the entire thing. Sadly I don’t think this is a series I’ll be continuing on with.

On top of these 13 books I also wanted to mention the 3 books I’m currently in the middle of. Because most likely I’ll finish at least one of these today. If I don’t talk about it now, it’ll miss being in a wrap up which always drives me nuts lol.

1. Escaping From Houdini (Stalking Jack the Ripper #3) by Kerri Maniscalco

EscapingFromHoudini

It’s driving me crazy that I’ve been reading this for weeks 😅 Not because I’m not enjoying it – in fact I’m loving it. But I picked this up because I wanted to read it, not because it fit a challenge or readathon, so I have to keep setting it aside to prioritize other things. This is such a fast read though. So if I finish the next book early enough, I’m hoping to knock this out as well! 🤞

2. Southern Storms (Compass #1) by Brittainy C. Cherry

SouthernStorms

I absolutely B Cherry and I was SO excited when I heard I was getting an arc copy of this! It’s being released on Thursday so I need to finish this today so I can get my review written and scheduled for release day. So far it’s a really cute and heartfelt. But content warnings galore y’all. This book has some dark topics – abuse (emotional, mental, and physical), grief, loss of a child, bullying, mental illness, the list goes on. But I’ll talk about all of that in detail in my review on Tuesday! ♥

3. Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2) by Brandon Sanderson

WellofAscension

I’m still slowly working my way through this one. I was originally part of a buddy read but people started to drop out with quarantine so I’ve been working through this one even slower now. I’m still hoping to finish this in April!

What was your favorite book you read this month??

  1. I’m glad you liked Crescent City so much! 😁 I got about 300 pages in … then life got busy, and I’m back to the start. Honestly, I think I’m enjoying it (and understanding it) much more this second time around.

    • Ah I hope you’re able to finish it soon! I can’t wait to hear what you think about the last half – it’s a crazy ride!! And I definitely think I want to reread it too. There is SO much world building in the first 100 pages and I think I would understand it way more the second time around ❤️❤️

  2. I can’t wait to read Crescent City!! I’m hoping to get to it this coming month. Looks like you had a decent month. I’ll keep that in mind when I read book 1 in the Suzanne Young series!
